Solheim x Dunning: A Winning Collaboration

The Solheim Cup returns in just over 30 days and one of its signature sponsors is Dunning, who is also title sponsor of The Woman Golfer Las Vegas Invitational in November.  The Solheim team will be wearing Dunning uniforms and is contributing Solheim wear for my participants, as well.

The cup matches are a biennial team competition between the top women professional golfers from Europe and the United States.  This year will mark the 18th meeting of the Solheim Cup matches which will be held from September 18-24 at the Finca Cortesin in Casares, Andalusia, Spain, where Stacy Lewis will captain Team U.S.A.

You may already know about Dunning, as they have a long history of up-market clothing for men, founded in 2001 to build as they say “better golf apparel.”  Dunning is credited with establishing proprietary manufacturing processes to create the world’s first technical athletic apparel.  

They only entered the arena of women’s golf apparel within the last two years, but wanted to signal their commitment to the market.  So they have committed to be the official provider of apparel to both The International Crown (held in May this year) and The Solheim Cup for the next two years (the next Solheim will be in 2024 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, VA).  This is a deep commitment to women and golf by Dunning.  Dunning even enlisted input on their line from team captain Stacy Lewis and the assistant captains, Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis.

Dunning combines luxury performance fabrics with clean designs to create a collection of technical golf sportswear for both men and women.  A little history, Ralph Dunning was an athlete his whole life — think six-time Ironman.  In the 1990s, he founded the Rip ’n Hammer line of premium technical clothing for triathletes and cyclists. I received numerous pieces from their current collection to try and I’m truly impressed on so many levels.  First, I’m a huge fan of clean lines with a tonal and minimalistic approach.  No fluff.  They have basically thought of every piece a woman would want in her golf wardrobe, from skorts, pants and shirts, to a beautiful hoodie to a sun protection shrug.  They are the only company that uses COOLMAX® fabric which is key for comfort on the course, in any element.  I love that the skorts have pockets on both the outside of the skort and on the short underneath.  The items wash and wear perfectly and look as good as when you first received them.      

I appreciate that the construction of each piece is impeccable.  So many samples sent for me to review have sloppy stitching or are oddly cut.  Not Dunning.  All of their items are perfectly finished and have an athletic fit that use a four-way stretch fabric. That  makes each piece comfortable for any body shape.  It’s a line that is a step above most every other line I have seen.
