TJ and Allisen Corpuz Triumph Together

If you watched the Women’s U.S. Open earlier this month then you know about its winner, Allisen Corpuz.  If you happened to miss the Women’s Open, this year they played at Pebble Beach and Allisen took home her first major, the $2 million payout, exemptions and life-long stature and memories.  Allisen just happens to be an ambassador for TJ Golf, formerly known and reviewed here as Taylor Jordan — more on that in a minute.  The weather was chilly in Pebble, so Allisen showed off her colorful array of TJ pullovers on national TV which proved perfect for the Monterey Peninsula.

Taylor Jordan was founded in 2016.  Over the last few years, they have fought hard against a behemoth in the golf industry to keep the rights to their name.  They have been told their name was too similar to the behemoth.  I hardly think there is any market confusion between the two but it’s hard going up against companies that have attorneys on staff and tons of money to spend on litigation.  To avoid formal litigation, Taylor Jordan has now changed the company name to TJ Golf.  Having run a boutique apparel line myself, I know what it’s like, in terms of expense and distraction, to go up against one of the monster golf companies.  In roughly 2008, I had a spat with Nike involving intellectual property, specifically their desire to use my ad campaign theme that was registered with the US Patent and Trademark Office.  They had what we understood was going to be an expensive ad campaign in all major golf publications that was to include Tiger and Suzann Pettersen, plus other members of their playing staff.  It was ready to run within weeks and they just figured out that I owned the intellectual property at the last minute.  I was offered a golf bag for the rights.  Yes, I said a golf bag.  So insulting, it was such an  easy “No”.

Anyway, back to TJ…

TJ Golf will be one of our fabulous sponsors for The Woman Golfer Las Vegas Invitational in November.  They will be at the opening night trunk show.  (My tournament is now full with 80 players but I do have a waitlist you can get on.  Just email me at blake@thewomangolfer.com)  TJ’s story began in 2016 with a husband and wife team, both of whom are optometrists.  With their young daughter entering competitive golf, they found a need to create clothing for both men and women.  Theirs is a classic look with just a bit of edge to its styling.  They use great fabrics, all with wicking and UV properties.  I wear their clothing on and off the course as it overlaps with all things in my daily life.

They will be launching their fall collection soon and now have a launched a collaboration with Bergy Bag which is a cooling cosmetic bag, something we could all use about now with this heat.

As for Allison Corpuz, she is now also a name we will recognize in the future.  She’s on a hot streak, having come in second this past week at the Greater Toledo LPGA Classic at Highland Meadows, right after her U.S. Women’s Open victory.  Hawaiian born, this is Allisen’s second year on tour.  She stayed at USC an extra year during COVID to to receive her Masters in Global Supply Chain Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Sustainability and Business.  She’s one smart cookie!
